Who We Are

History

Established in 2003 and headquartered in Orlando, St. Johns Insurance Company is a privately-held Florida company specializing in homeowners' insurance products and services. St. Johns Insurance Company is owned by St. Johns Holding Company. The majority shareholder is St. James Insurance Group, a managing general agency and program developer who has been underwriting homeowners' policies since 1984.

St. Johns outstanding performance has earned the company an "A" exceptional rating from Demotech, an organization that ranks and monitors insurance companies for financial stability.

Today, St. Johns continues to solidify and expand its presence in the state. The company's commitment to offering quality products and services has made St. Johns one of the most sought after insurance companies in Florida.

Management Team

St. Johns management team is composed of seasoned insurance people with an average of 29 years' experience in the business.

Reese I. Bowen, President
Mr. Bowen has over 35 years' experience in insurance management, underwriting, product development and operations both domestically and internationally. In his career, he has held senior management positions with AIG Risk Management, Midland Intermediary and Coopers & Lybrand Risk Management Consulting. He is a graduate of Georgia State University.

Russell Beck, Executive Vice President
Mr. Beck has 15 years' experience in homeowners insurance claims management. Prior to joining St. Johns, he was regional claims manager and catastrophe claims manager for Risk Enterprise Management, the TPA Division of Zurich Risk Management Services, where he managed property claims for Florida and Texas Select. He was also responsible for planning, staffing, overseeing the technical and catastrophe vendor network and the performance of multiple branch offices. Mr. Beck is a g raduate of Florida State University and is a Florida State Certified Residential Contractor and a Senior Claims Law Associate. He is licensed in Florida, Texas and South Carolina.

Scot Moore, Chief Financial Officer
Mr. Moore most recently served as Treasurer and Chief Financial Officer of Universal Land Title, Inc., and Alliance Title of America, Inc. Prior to that, he was Vice President of Accounting for Bankers Insurance, where he administered accounting and finance for more than 30 entities. Prior to joining Bankers, he served as Audit Manager for Gregory, Sharer & Stuart, P.A., in St. Petersburg, Florida. He is a graduate of Stetson University with a BBA in Accounting and Master of Accountancy. He also holds his CPA, AIAF, and ARC designations.

 

Board of Directors

St. Johns Board of Directors is comprised of seasoned professionals.

James McCahill, Chairman
Mr. McCahill is also Chairman of St. James Insurance Group and founding principal of St. Johns Insurance Company. Since 1990 he has held the positions of Chairman and CEO of St. James and St. Johns, and majority owner of predecessor Braishfield Associates, Inc.

Prior to 1990, Mr. McCahill was an officer with Savannah Georgia based Palmer & Cay and Director of the Commercial Insurance Division. He began his career in New York with Marsh in the Major Accounts Casualty Department. He is a graduate of Rollins College, and serves on numerous civic and social boards.

Robert P. Lucas, Director
Mr. Lucas also serves as President of St. James Insurance Group. He has extensive experience in underwriting program business and large accounts. He began his career with the Chubb Group in commercial, multi-line underwriting management.

Prior to the formation of St. James Insurance Group, he was a Principal and Executive Vice President of Braishfield Associates. Prior to that, he was with A.J. Gallagher. He is a graduate of Drew University.

Reese I. Bowen, Director
Mr. Bowen, as President of St. Johns Insurance Company, is responsible for the design and implementation of underwriting programs for St. Johns. In that capacity, he also provides the strategy for all state filings, underwriting protocol and the ceded reinsurance portfolio both quota share and catastrophe.

His 35 years of experience includes eight years brokering commercial accounts and five years in underwriting management. Through his association with AIG Risk Management, New York, Mr. Bowen acquired valuable experience with alternative risk financing techniques and insurance company operations.

Michael Culbertson, Director
Mr. Culbertson, a 30-year insurance industry veteran, is president of Seibels Bruce. He joined the organization in 1974. Prior to being named president, he played an integral role in managing insurance operations, crafting strategic marketing alliances and creating the company’s claim-handling subsidiary, Insurance Network Services, Inc.

He is a graduate of the University of South Carolina and holds his CPCU designation.

Christopher J. McHattie, Director
Mr. McHattie is a principal in his own law firm. He serves as corporate counsel for St. James Insurance Group. He assists the company and Florida counsel with insurance compliance and regulatory matters and provides oversight for corporate legal affairs and litigation.

Mr. McHattie is a graduate of Seton Hall University and New York Law School. He is a member of the New Jersey, New York and American Bar Associations.
